Africa-Press – Zambia. Hot FM Chair/CEO Oscar Chavula writes: Am beginning to find the tribal issue unfair and unbearable for Tongas! You can’t have them marginalised in every government in the name of tribal balancing!
All the tribalists are quickly picking and dissecting Tonga appointments and trying to run off with the narrative that the President is appointing his tribesmen/women, they want him to feel bad so that he can leave out competent people on account of tribe.
You may not have known or may not have been affected directly but the last 7 years of the PF purged the government of qualified Tongas and made it a point to downgrade their importance when they couldn’t fire or transfer them to some bush somewhere. That was evil and I wrote about it!
Let’s not play politics at every turn or make it difficult for Tongas to feel Zambian, it’s unacceptable. My prayer is that the President will boldly appoint Zambians who are competent without looking at the surname repeatedly. Tribal balancing at minister level is somehow acceptable but to stretch it everywhere will entrench incompetence to the entitled who bring nothing but tribe to the table.
There has to be some affirmative action just to level the ill-treatment which Tongas endured especially in the last administration where the marginalisation happened unashamedly. The President shouldn’t feel bad about appointing eminent or qualified Tongas at all! They shouldn’t be made to suffer on account of tribe… Ico cakana!
