Africa-Press – Zambia. Vice President Mutale Nalumango says President Hakainde Hichilema is not interfering in tender processes of any public procurement but simply providing guidance.
Mrs Nalumango has told Parliament during the Vice President`s Question Time this morning that the recent statement attributed to President Hichilema on the need to ensure positive discrimination in the procurement processes of fertilizer must be commended by stakeholders as it is meant to empower local producers of fertilizer.
Responding to a question from opposition Members of Parliament among them Shiwang`andu Lawmaker Stephen Kampyongo who wanted to know what law the head of state is using to engage himself in public procurement processes following reports that he has cancelled a fertilizer procurement tender process, Mrs Nalumango says no tender process has been cancelled except guidance given to ensure Zambians are also considered. The Vice President says President Hichilema is the visionary of the current regime and it is within his mandate to give direction on such matters.
