Africa-Press – Zambia. I have noticed some people making comments about elections in Kenya and the participation of President Edgar Lungu as head of mission for AU. Well….though I am not his Spokesperson, I am hear to inform you accordingly.
If you remember in 2014, after President Sata’s death, when we had a succession standoff between Guy Scott and President Lungu, William Ruto was sent by Uhuru Kenyatta to mediate.
Sometimes later during President Lungu’s rule he interacted with both of them and they have a good relationship. This is why you saw Uhuru Kenyatta coming for most of our national events apart from the AU summit which took place after President Lungu had left power.
President Lungu also tried to mediate between Uhuru and William when they had challenges. However, in this election, Uhuru Kenyatta is supporting opposition leader Raira Odinga while William Ruto is up against the two.
So, President Lungu, out of principle, has declined to be part of the observers and he is praying for a peaceful election on Tuesday 9th August, 2022.
