Africa-Press – Zambia. Fourth Republican President Rupiah Bwezani Banda has died. The former Preaident’s son Andrew Banda has confirmed his demise. Andrew the eldest Son says his father died around 19:00hrs.
He had been diagnosed with colon cancer in 2020. President Banda was born on 19th February,1937. President Hakainde Hichilema yesterday went to see president Banda.
President Banda served as Diplomat after Independence and later Minister under Kenneth Kaunda’s UNIP. Later in 2005 having been on retirement, he was recalled to join the MMD government and serve as Vice president to President Levy Mwanawasa.
He then succeeded President Mwanawasa when he died in 2008 and ruled Zambia upto 2011 when he was defeated in a general election by Michael Sata and PF. MHSRIP.
