Africa-Press – Zambia. Parliament is the bedrock of democracy in any democractic state and so no one should be allowed to reduce Parliament into a bedroom affair where anyone who is mandated to preside over it must act in anyway they please outside what the constitution dictates.
The privileges of members of parliament is enshrined in the republican constitution and any guidelines or standing orders that gags members of parliament from exercising those privileges should be declared null and void and any conduct that takes away those rights and privileges of members should never be entertained.
You can therefore supress people from talking outside parliament but not in parliament because the rights and privileges of members is constitutional.
Today i was sent out of the house by the second deputy speaker for insisting that the Hon member of parliament for petauke had the right to present his issue and it was wrong for the presiding officer to curtail him.
We will continue to protect the democracy of parliament no matter how many times we will be sent out. We are just starting and those who have chosen to be in the kitchen must stand the heat.
