THE UNIVERSITY OF ZAMBIA(UNZA) Vice-Chancellor, Prof Luke Evuta Mumba, has paid glowing tribute to the First Republican President and First Chancellor of the University, Dr Kenneth David Kaunda, referring to him as a strong believer and champion in the power of education by promoting inclusivity and providing easy access to education for all Zambians.
He encouraged girls and women education. Prof Mumba said this when he was signing in a book of condolences at the late President Kaunda’s residence on Monday, 21st June 2021.
He says that Dr Kaunda’s efforts and investments in establishing the University of Zambia have not been in vain as he laid a strong foundation for the socio-economic development of the nation.
As Founding Chancellor of the University, Dr Kaunda envisioned to produce quality human capital through provision of university and tertiary education in order to manage the national development agenda for the benefit of the Zambian citizens.
“The University of Zambia Council, Senate, Management, Staff and Students of the University of Zambia, are deeply saddened by the passing away of our beloved Founding Chancellor of the University of Zambia and First Republican President, Dr Kenneth David Kaunda,” Prof Mumba said.
He conveyed heartfelt sympathies and sincere condolences to His Excellency the President of the Republic of Zambia, Dr Edgar Chagwa Lungu, the Kaunda family, Government and the people of this Great Nation, Zambia.
“May God provide Dr Kenneth Kaunda’s family and the people of Zambia all the requisite strength and steadfastness to go through this difficult moment in our nation’s history. We pray that the soul of Dr Kenneth David Kaunda rest in eternal peace,” he said. This is according to a press statement issued by Damaseke Chibale, Acting Head – Communication and Marketing at UNZA.
