UPND cadres ambush GPZ president, Silavwe at Kabwata Police

Africa-Press – Zambia. SUSPECTED United Party for National Development (UPND) yesterday attacked Golden Party of Zambia president Jackson Silavwe for going to Kabwata Police Station to visit and give solidarity to detained National Democratic Congress (NDC) president Saboi Imboela.

Mr Silavwe said a group of about six cadres who were stationed at Kabwata Police pounced on him and accused him of insulting President Hakainde Hichilema.

He said that the cadres attacked him in full view of the police who even failed to defend his group as they were being lynched by the angry cadres. “It is unfortunate that the police did not come to our rescue even when they saw that we were about to be attacked,” Mr Silavwe said.

He said UPND camped at Kabwata Police Station and even called for backup after they saw that he was not intimidated by their actions. Mr Silavwe said the UPND cadres demanded to stop the live interview when he was addressing the press.

“We are extremely shocked at the behavior of the UPND thugs and wonder if President Saboi will get justice,” Mr Silavwe said. He said this was the same behaviour the Zambian people rejected from the PF and UPND had embraced it wholeheartedly. Mr Silavwe said the UPND must not mismanage the mandate given to them by the Zambian people. Their arrogance will cost them greatly.
