UPND WELCOMES ARREST OF 4 OF ITS OFFICIALS

Africa-Press – Zambia. UPND National Spokesperson Cornelius Mweetwa says the recent arrest of four of its officials demonstrates the commitment by President Hakainde Hichilema’s administration to the rule of law.

Reacting to the arrest of Luapula Province Deputy Permanent Secretary Roy Mwansa along with two District Commissioners from the province for illegal mining and transportation of Sugillite Mineral and Mongu Mayor Nyambe Muyumbana and a Councilor for violent behaviour, Mr. Mweetwa says the development also demonstrates the UPND’s adherence to it promise of upholding the rule of law and equality of all citizens in the fight against corruption.

Addressing the media in Lusaka this morning, Mr Mweetwa has cautioned all party members to desist from finding themselves in conflict with the law saying no one will be spared if found wanting.

Mr. Mweetwa has also warned people who want to use police officers to cover illegalities that they will not get their way regardless of their political affiliations.

Meanwhile, Mr. Mweetwa says the party is yet to decide on the matter involving the Mongu Mayor and a ward councilor on their conduct after getting involved in a fight after a drinking spree.
