Africa-Press – Zambia. Renowned political commentator and human rights defender, Laura Miti has urged the new dawn administration under President Hakainde Hichilema not entertain tendencies of inclining to be ‘Lords’ over citizens. She says the previous government made that mistake and are out of power because that.

“That government is gone, though. We can only hope that if people in this government ever feel matukutuku & like Lords over us, & forget their mandate to use power to improve lives & the country, they’ll shake themselves & remember who has real power so that we don’t have to remind them,” she says.

Miti adds that as another analyst Jimmy Maliseni pointed out yesterday, powerholders in the previous government’s decision to both pour scorn on and ignore a firm, but friendly, warning from citizens, when they still had 2 years ahead of elections to try & make amends, proved ultimately suicidal.

Miti pointed out that when citizens gathered outside Parliament dressed in yellow to raise their yellow “cards” in protest against the previous government, their concerns were ignored.

“A loud combined citizen voice rose asking gov to change course. They did not and today they are out of power,” she notes.
