Africa-PressZambia. A 45 year old woman has died on the spot after the vehicle she was traveling in collided head on with another vehicle along Solwezi-Chingola road. North Western Province Deputy Commissioner of Police, Fred Mulenga, who confirmed the incident in a statement to the media today, identified the deceased as Fridah Matunga. Dr Mulenga said the accident occurred on 12th September 2021 at about 02:50 hours at 10 miles area along Solwezi-Chingola road.

“ Involved was Isaac Kabongu aged 52 a bio-medical scientist at provincial health office Solwezi, whilst driving a motor vehicle namely Toyota kluger L reg no.BAL 7648Zm a property of civil servant and allied workers union North Western province along the said road from East to West direction at high speed hit into a Benz light truck reg no.BAL 7468 which was coming from the opposite direction being driven by Chinabe Bonayi of Mushingashi compound Kalumbila from West to East while carrying two passengers” he said.

Dr Mulenga said the accident happened when Mr Kabongu a driver of a Toyota kluger was driving at an excessive speed just after over taking the vehicle which was in front of him and hit into the truck causing the death of Fridah Matunga whom is said to be his wife.

He said the deceased sustained severe injuries while Mr Kabongu sustained suspected fractured both legs and general body pains, adding that the driver of a light truck escaped unhurt.

“The two passengers he was carrying in the light truck sustained slight injuries namely Stella Kamwandi aged 36 of Kandemba Solwezi a painful left leg, Kalala Chrispin aged 38 of Kyawama Solwezi sustained painful both legs and a painful left hand,” Dr Mulenga said

He said the body of the deceased has since been taken to Solwezi general hospital mortuary while the casualties are also admitted at the same hospital receiving medical attention.

“Both vehicles are extensively damaged. The driver of a Toyota kluger L was to blame for the accident and he is yet to be charged for causing death by dangerous driving,” said Dr Mulenga. He has since advised motorists to obey the speed limits and desist from driving vehicles at late hours of the night without resting.
