Africa-Press – Zambia. Some Chinese who were running an online investment business, Shopee Mall have disappeared in thin air, leaving members who invested and Employees stranded. A check by Zambian Eye established that their offices located at Arcades Shopping Mall in the capital, Lusaka has been abandoned.
Meanwhile, Shopee Marketing and Sales Manager Sichone Musenga says he and other office workers are also victims just like investors who have been conned of their monies.
He said the Shopee management did not know the directors’ plans to dupe people. “We did not know what these guys was up to. So please bear with us, we are also victims just like any others,” he says in a statement to members who invested in the Business.
Musenga says from the look of things at face value the Shopee directors appeared to be genuine, with good paperwork, billboards and any other things and branded materials appeared to be professional, that is why many fell into the trap.
However, he says they only suspected that something could be fishy on Saturday after the guys exhibited an element of unprofessionalism in the way they were handling communication issues.
Meanwhile, he says fears are that these guys may have fled the country, and urged every relevant offices from police, immigration, airports security and others to work together in order to have these ‘conmen’ arrested and brought to book.
Musenga says it is confirmed that one of the directors left the country, but believes that the other ones may still in the country, hence the call for relevant offices to help in apprehend the suspects.
Be that as it may, from the look of things, a number of people have been left in quandary, and are just praying that at least one of the directors is arrested so that they could recover their monies. The members who invested in the business were being asked to buy and sell products on the Shopee Mall platform at a daily commission.
The problem started last week according to some members who had invested that they could not make withdraws from their investments. Management claimed the withdraws were cancelled due to some financial operations that were being realigned with the banking system in Zambia.
“As the platform’s financial system is being maintained and updated, in order to ensure the safety of each user’s personal funds, the amount withdrawn after the 18th of this month will all be returned to the original account. After verification is complete. The money will be withdrawn to the account immediately.
The official Shopee Mall has reached an agreement with the Bank of Zambia, which will give priority to the users of Shopee Mall, and make subsidies for the users affected by this time.
