Africa-Press – Zambia. Copper production in Zambia rose significantly in the second quarter of 2025, reaching 439,644 metric tonnes, up from 373,263.9 metric tonnes recorded during the same period in 2024.

This represents a 17.78% increase, according to Mines and Minerals Development Minister Paul Kabuswe.

Mr. Kabuswe attributed the surge to improved output at Konkola Copper Mines (KCM), Mopani Copper Mines, Kansanshi, and Chibuluma Mine.

Notably, KCM’s production jumped from 808 metric tonnes to 35,000 metric tonnes, while Mopani increased from 17,000 to 27,500 metric tonnes.

Gold production also rose to 1.77 kilograms in Q2 2025, compared to 1.36 kilograms in the same period last year, reflecting a 35.9% increase.

The growth was largely driven by increased output at Kansanshi Mine.

Speaking during a second-quarter press briefing in Lusaka, Mr. Kabuswe highlighted progress in formalizing artisanal mining activities, noting that these statistics reflect growing Zambian participation in the mining sector.

He also announced significant strides in the High Resolution Aerial Geophysical Survey, which has now covered over 16 districts, aimed at improving resource mapping and exploration.
