Africa-Press – Zambia. Chapter One Foundation Limited has asked the court to include in its petition a declaration that it was illegal and unreasonable for Zambia Information and Communication Technology Authority ZICTA to shut down the internet during the August 12, general election.
In an Affidavit in support of Commissions for an order for leave to amend the notice of application for judicial review, the petitioner notes that for purposes of preventing such actions from being repeated, it is necessary to make an addition of such a remedy.
The applicant believe that the new addition to the petition will not prejudice the respondent but will allow for a full determination of the issues raised.
In this matter, Chapter One Foundation Limited sued ZICTA over the disruption of internet during the general election claiming that the decision made citizens to panic, allowing the spread of disinformation and preventing citizens from accessing vital information. Among the platforms that were allegedly shut down include Twitter, Facebook, whatsapp and Instagram.- Diamond TV
