Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. THE already existing artificial intelligence (AI) systems are biased as they support the values of their developers which are the Chinese and the West only, says AI expert Arthur Mutambara.
Presenting at the Artificial Intelligence Summit for Africa 2025 which is being hosted by Alpha Media Holdings publication, the Zimbabwe Independent, in partnership with the Artificial Intelligence Institute Africa (AIIA), Mutambara said Africa was adopting AI models, which do not reflect its values as a continent.
“Things are not neutral,” he said. “That is why we must train our young people to create AI systems that we can put our own values in.
“The Chinese and the Western are bowlers and short callers in the AI revolution. You and I are passengers.
“These are the people who are creating the AI system we are using.”
The African continent has been lagging behind in developing AI systems while China and the US have taken a leading role in pioneering AI systems such as Deepseek, Alibaba, ChatGpt, Grok among other systems.
