Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. HARARE, Aug.19,2025 (NewsDayLive)-All is set for the Chartered Governance and Accounting Institute in Zimbabwe (CGAIZ) Summer School, which will run from August 27 to 30 at the Rainbow Hotel in Bulawayo.

This year’s event is themed “Upskilling Governance and Accountancy Professionals for Enhanced Organisational Resilience,” and is expected to draw professionals from across Zimbabwe for an intensive, forward-looking programme.

Speaking ahead of the event, CGAIZ chief executive and secretary, Lovemore Gomera, said the Summer School reflects the Institute’s commitment to preparing professionals for the evolving demands of governance and finance in a rapidly changing world.

“This year’s theme reflects our commitment to building resilient institutions through empowered professionals.

“We are not just responding to change but preparing leaders to shape it. From environmental, social and governance (ESG) strategy to artificial intelligence (AI) ethics, retirement planning to board governance, our program is designed to meet the evolving demands of today’s governance and accounting landscape,” Gomera said.

The Summer School programme will open with sessions on public financial management and auditing in national resilience, presented by Rhea Kujinga, followed by a deep dive into capital markets and VFX in Africa, led by Robert Mubaiwa.

Tawanda Collins Muzamwese will guide participants through practical approaches to building strong ESG strategies, while Tinashe Chimombe will explore the role of artificial intelligence in driving operational efficiency, compliance and ethics.

Veteran academic Alec Jemwa will address how governance and accounting professionals can unlock opportunities in a volatile, uncertain, complex and ambiguous (VUCA) environment.

A panel discussion on navigating career transitions in VUCA environments will feature insights from Coach Marilyn, Never Ncube, Wadzanayi Phiri, Leonard Chitongo, Dr Gomera and moderator Stern Zvavamwe.

The day will close with a fireside chat and networking session moderated by the CGI Bulawayo Student Society.

Day two will begin with a wellness-focused session on managing workplace pressures, stress and burnout, facilitated by Coach Marilyn. Ncube will return to address cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and emerging risks, asking whether professionals are truly prepared for what lies ahead.

Wadzanayi Phiri will present strategies for smart retirement planning and financial independence, while Leonard Chitongo will unpack the complexities of global compliance through a practical lens on transfer pricing.

Gomera will lead a session titled “The Director’s Toolkit,” offering practical insights into modern board governance.

The afternoon will feature a networking lunch followed by team-building activities, outdoor learning games and peer engagement facilitated by Nicholas Chikondowa and the CGAIZ team. The Summer School will conclude with a formal dinner and entertainment, celebrating the shared learning and professional growth achieved over the course of the event.

“With a strong emphasis on practical knowledge, strategic foresight and professional wellness, the CGAIZ Summer School promises to be a transformative experience for governance and accountancy professionals seeking to build resilience and lead with confidence in today’s complex environment,” Gomera added.
