Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. HARARE, Sept.1, 2025, (NewsDay Live)- The Simuniziva Band from Victoria Falls has won the Matabeleland North Provincial finals of the Chibuku Road to Fame competition, and got the ticket to compete in the national finals set for October 4 at a venue yet to be announced.
Simuniziva came out tops, followed by Afro fusion Band AbeLifa (first runners Up) and Zambezi Fusion, who came third in provincial competitions held at Chinotimba Beerhall in Victoria Falls on August 30.
For their effort, Simuniziva walked away with US$2 500, with Abelifa collecting US$1 500 while Zambezi Fusion got US$1 000 in prize money, respectively.
Simuniziva joins Midlands winners Core Vibes and Mashonaland West’s ALL in ONE in the national finals, where winners will walk away with up to US$15 000 and a recording contract. With provincial contests ongoing, the competition is heating up as bands across Zimbabwe compete under the theme “Celebrating 25 Years of Discovering Talent.”
The Chibuku Road to Fame Provincial Competitions began on August 23 in Kadoma where 20 groups from Midlands and Mashonaland West provinces competed for honours. The Midlands top three bands were Core Vibes- Afro fusion (first position), Ambassadors – AFRO FUSION (second position) and Ecossa Rythms- Sungura (third position). Mashonaland West’s top three bands were ALL in ONE- Afro fusion (first position), BOOM Jazz – Contemporary (second position) and Nhapi Tapi- Afro fusion (third position).
