Man Faces Court After Dogs Kill 13-Year-Old Girl

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. The owner of three dogs that mauled a 13-year-old girl to death while she was walking home from school in Nyabira appeared in court on Monday, facing charges of culpable homicide.

Gift Jambaya, 50, of St Mannocks Farm, appeared before the Chinhoyi Regional Court following the incident, which took place on 30 September 2025.

According to the National Prosecuting Authority (NPA), Jambaya allegedly left six cross-breed dogs unsecured.

The dogs reportedly chased a group of schoolchildren as they walked home, and while the other pupils managed to escape, Caroline Chari was mauled.

A search party later found her body with multiple deep cuts and bite wounds.

Jambaya was remanded in custody pending the continuation of his bail hearing, with the State opposing bail.

The NPA reminded the public that allowing dogs to run loose is not only a nuisance but also a breach of the legal duty of care, which is considered a criminal offence.
