Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. A National Railways of Zimbabwe (NRZ) goods train bound for Mozambique derailed in Makambe, Chikombedzi, after heavy rains eroded the railway foundation.

No injuries or fatalities were reported. Preliminary assessments show several wagons carrying coal and chrome were damaged.

NRZ spokesperson Andrew Kunambura confirmed the derailment to State media, saying a recovery team has been deployed and the railway line is expected to reopen within 48 hours. Said Kunambura:

“There are no injuries or fatalities, and the derailment was caused by a washaway that disrupted the railway formation.

“This was a result of flash floods that were experienced after heavy rainfall in Chikombedzi.”
