Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. The Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) says it has stepped up deployments in Guruve to track suspected serial killer Anymore Zvitsva following the murder of two more people on Monday.
Zvitsva is the prime suspect in the deaths of 12 people in Guruve since October, including the recent killing of five members of the Zvitsva family at Ona Farm on 11 December.
The latest victims are 40-year-old Alice Saujati Mayora and her 16-year-old daughter, Shalom Malunga, who were brutally murdered on Monday night.
According to ZBC News, there was a heavy police presence on Tuesday, with soldiers also deployed in the area.
ZRP spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi told ZBC News that people in Korobe are being advised to sleep in groups to stay safe. He said:
“As we speak, we have deployed police officers and other members of the security services who are conducting patrols, surveillance, and stop and searches to make sure that we arrest the suspect who has been identified.
“We have put in place some strategies, some of which we cannot review at the moment, to make sure that we leave no stone unturned and arrest this suspect.
“For the safety of the villagers, we are now mobilising the people in Korobe to sleep in groups so that we safeguard lives.”
Nyathi confirmed that police have received a list of 100 women and 50 girls allegedly targeted by the suspect. He said:
“We are fully aware of the list which was allegedly found and pinned on a scotch cart. Names of 100 women and 50 girls.
“The police are verifying the authenticity of the list, given allegations that some of the people on the list have already been killed. We are currently looking at the veracity of this list.”
He also warned anyone possibly aiding the suspect that the long arm of the law will catch up with them.
