Alpha Media Staff Receive US$50 After Year Without Pay

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Hundreds of employees at Alpha Media Holdings (AMH), one of Zimbabwe’s leading private media groups, reportedly have not been paid their salaries for the past twelve months.

According to journalist Leopold Munhende, the workers received only US$50 each as their December 2025 salaries on Christmas Eve. He wrote on X:

“Trevor Ncube’s Alpha Media Holdings (AMH) today paid journalists US$50 each as December salaries.

“Wait… these were not December salaries, they were in fact said to be part of their January 2025 salaries, which up till now have not been paid.

“They’re yet to receive any of their 2025 salaries, having been given December 2024 ZiG salaries last month.

“We are less than 24 hours to Christmas, less than seven days to the end of 2025, less than seven days to rents & mortgages; & just about three weeks to the opening of schools.

“For an employer who has presented himself as an advocate for ethical journalism, this is disappointing.”

AMH publishes NewsDay, Independent, The Standard, Southern Eye and HStv News.

Workers told Bulawayo24.com that senior executives, including editors, received US$100, highlighting a stark pay gap.

The disparity has sparked anger among staff, who accuse the company of exploiting them while they continue to publish newspapers, run digital platforms, and meet deadlines without proper pay.

AMH has faced financial difficulties in recent years due to falling advertising revenues and rising costs.

However, employees say the burden of the crisis has been unfairly passed onto them, leaving many struggling with eviction, unpaid school fees, and mounting medical bills.
