Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. A 46-year-old man from Greystone Park, Harare, was arrested on Monday in connection with the murder of broadcast journalist and actress Cordelia Masalethulini.
The suspect, Fungai Quintone Tawengwa, was reportedly in a romantic relationship with the 45-year-old.
He is expected to appear before the Harare Magistrates’ Court on Wednesday.
Masalethulini’s body was discovered along Domboshava Road in Borrowdale. A security guard, who was the first to arrive at the scene, initially believed the incident to be a hit-and-run accident and alerted the authorities.
However, police investigations later established that the circumstances pointed to foul play.
Residents said Masalethulini and Tawengwa had been involved in a heated argument the day before her body was found.
The pair were reportedly seen together on Sunday, dining and drinking at Helensvale Shopping Centre, where their interaction drew the attention of onlookers. A resident said:
“Around 8pm, they decided to head to Domboshava but ended up at the home of one of Fungai’s friends in Borrowdale.
“They had a misunderstanding, and Cordelia refused to go home with Fungai.
“Eventually, they left together, heading toward home.”
Investigators later found bloodstains in one of the rooms at the residence where the pair had been staying, further raising questions about the circumstances surrounding Masalethulini’s death.
