The Zanu PF National Chairperson, Oppah Muchinguri-Kashiri says there is a need for proper monitoring mechanisms to ensure that all government initiatives benefit people in the grassroots as unscrupulous business people are manipulating systems for self-gain.
The revolutionary party’s national chairperson made the remarks at the opening ceremony of the 18th national people’s conference in Goromonzi.
“Prices of inputs are skyrocketing on a daily basis which might affect this agricultural season. We thank the President for the Presidential inputs scheme though there is a need to properly monitor these initiatives as unscrupulous business people are diverting inputs to the parallel market. To ensure that we eradicate poverty within communities, we need to put monitoring mechanisms on these inputs,” she said.
Muchinguri thanked the President for swift intervention regarding subsidies on basic commodities which were introduced as a way of cushioning citizens against increasing prices.
“Your Excellency, you have stood with the people despite a number of challenges facing the country’s citizens. Challenges include, price hikes, prices for medical attention, school fees hikes which might see some children failing to go to school. Unscrupulous business people are still demanding payments in foreign currency despite the introduction of mono currency. This must be dealt with forthwith,” she said.
She said ZANU PF has remained the favourite party though there is a need for discipline among party cadres considering that some members of the party are being found on the wrong side of the law.
“Zanu PF is the face of the nation hence party members should be well disciplined because we have seen a number of our members invading mines, invading the land in the name of the party, which is wrong. Discipline is of utmost importance for the good of the party,” said Muchinguri-Kashiri.
Meanwhile, the Mashonaland East Province has vowed to surpass votes achieved last year in the 2023 elections considering that the province is the stronghold of the revolutionary party.
This was said by Zanu PF provincial chairperson, Joel Biggie Matiza while welcoming delegates to the 18th national people’s conference in Goromonzi.
Matiza said under the party’s structural renewal, the 390 districts will be strengthened in the coming year to ensure the party records huge numbers in the coming elections.
“We are strengthening the grassroots as way of ensuring the revolutionary party is strong at all levels. We have 390 districts with more than 343 thousand members, we did well in the by-elections and we vow to surpass the numbers achieved in last year’s elections in the 2023 elections,” he said.
Matiza also noted that mass mobilisation remains critical for the province to cement its position as the stronghold of the revolutionary party.
“Mass mobilisation is critical in attaining high turnouts during elections. We have a number of empowerment programmes being done for members of the youth league, women’s league and other party arms to ensure that they benefit from all government programmes,” he said.
