Zimbabwe has had a passport backlog that dated back to 2018 with the RG’s office saying it had inadequate consumables needed for the printing of passports.
There used to be long queues at the passport office with some seekers of the traveling document sleeping in queues. Some officials were allegedly demanding huge kickbacks from passport seekers for their collection dates to be drawn closer.
The outbreak of the coronavirus gave the government some grace period to reduce the backlog since there were few applications during that period.
