Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. The Medical and Dental Practitioners Protection of Zimbabwe Association (MDPPZA) has announced the launch of the inaugural Medical and Health National Excellence Awards, a first-of-its-kind recognition platform celebrating outstanding contributions across Zimbabwe’s medical and health sectors.
The awards, which feature 31 competitive categories, are set to honour practitioners, institutions and stakeholders who have demonstrated exceptional dedication, innovation, and humanitarian service in the advancement of healthcare.
NewsDay is the media partner of the awards.
MDPPZA president Johannes Marisa said the awards were designed to appreciate “the good work done in silence” by health professionals who continue to serve communities without formal recognition.
“This programme is meant to encourage and promote the good spirit of professionalism and social responsibility that drives national growth and development,” said Marisa.
“Many practitioners across various sectors of the medical fraternity work tirelessly, often without acknowledgment — this is our way of saying, ‘we see you and we appreciate you.’”
The Medical and Health National Awards programme will cover all 14 sectors of the medical fraternity, including public health, dentistry, nursing, pharmaceuticals, research, and traditional medicine.
The MDPPZA has also engaged the Ministry of Higher and Tertiary Education, Innovation, Science and Technology Development to ensure transparency and credibility throughout the selection process.
Marisa emphasised that the initiative is not only for healthcare workers, but also open to the corporate world and other stakeholders through partnerships and sponsorships.
“We are inviting corporates, organisations, and individuals to partner with us in this great national programme. Participation can be through sponsorship, support, or other collaborative arrangements. Our hands are open, and we welcome everyone who shares in this vision,” he added.
According to the MDPPZA, nominations have been invited from all industries across Zimbabwe, with assessments conducted nationwide to ensure inclusivity.
“Geographical location is not a barrier. We want every corner of Zimbabwe represented, so we can truly capture the spirit of excellence that defines our nation’s healthcare sector,” said Marisa.
The awards ceremony is expected to become an annual event that not only recognises excellence but also inspires a culture of innovation, compassion, and national pride within Zimbabwe’s health and wellness landscape.
MDPPZA is an inclusive national body of medical practitioners in private practice and consists of more than 500 members.
