Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. The Ministry of Health and Child Care has released its latest Weekly Disease Surveillance Report for the week ending 29 June 2025, highlighting concerning figures in dog bite cases and steady trends in snake bites and anthrax.
A total of 435 dog bite cases were recorded across the country during the reporting period, with no deaths reported. Of these, 107 people were bitten by vaccinated dogs, 83 by unvaccinated dogs, and 245 by dogs of unknown vaccination status. The highest number of cases was recorded in Masvingo Province with 84 cases, followed by Midlands Province with 64. The cumulative total for dog bite incidents this year has now reached 15,315, although the country has not recorded any related fatalities.
Snake bite cases also remained a public health concern, with 21 new cases reported during the week. While no deaths occurred, the cumulative number of snake bite cases this year has reached 2,979, including 9 fatalities.
Meanwhile, three new anthrax cases were reported, all from the Midlands Province. Two cases came from Gokwe South District and one from Gokwe North District. The cumulative total for anthrax infections now stands at 68, with no deaths recorded to date.
