51 Learners Hospitalised After Bee Attack At Bulawayo School

Fifty-one pupils from Barham Green Primary School in Bulawayo and a female passerby were taken to the hospital after being attacked by a swarm of bees on Friday afternoon.

The injured pupils and the woman were rushed to United Bulawayo Hospitals for treatment.

It is believed some pupils accidentally disturbed a beehive in the school grounds, setting off the attack.

The incident caused panic at the school. Pupils ran for safety while teachers tried to shield them from the bees.

Bulawayo Chief Fire Officer Mhlangano Moyo confirmed the incident. He said the Bulawayo Fire Brigade attended the scene and used fire hose reels to bring the bees under control.

“We had a swarm of bees that was so violent. Fifty-one school children were seriously stung together with a female adult passerby who was also seriously injured,” he said.

“The Brigade used fire hose reels to subdue the bees while four ambulances were mobilised to convey the injured to UBH hospital.”
