Dombosahva Centre of Hope received a major boost following material and cash donations raised through a 98-kilometre charity race held this weekend.
44 cyclists braved a gruelling 98-kilometre bike ride from Harare to Bindura via Domboshava to raise $16 000 and roofing materials for Domboshava centre of Hope which is constructing a school.
This follows a touching ZBC News story which showcased the plight of children with disabilities who had nowhere to learn.
The cyclists briefly stopped to assess progress at the school and interact with children.
“We want to build a centre of excellence, we want to have a centre that will provide various skills, educational skills literacy numeracy skills and also life skills so that children improve themselves. Disability is not inability,” Domboshava Centre of Hope Director, Mr Sidumisile Sibanda said.
Hillmax Engineering Director Mr. Pascal Musavaya said the race was tough but the cause was worthy.
“Tough ride initially a lot of down rides which are steep and inclined but we made it.There are underprivileged and handicapped children and we want to give that place, Domboshava Centre of Hope, hope as its name says hope for the underprivileged. We want to build it like any other school,” said Mr Musavaya.
The Hilmax cycling challenge has been running for 5 years while construction of the school at Domboshava Centre of Hope started last year and completion is scheduled for December.
