One of Air Zimbabwe’s planes was forced to make an emergency landing in Taiwan after its eft engine developed a technical fault shortly after takeoff.

The airline said its flight UM462 was just 40 minutes into its flight to Islamabad, Pakistan, from Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok when it declared an emergency and requested to turn back.

The 29-year-old aircraft landed safely back in Bangkok with its 17 crew and two passengers. Said the airline in a statement:

Our engineers are making all necessary assessments and maintenance for the aircraft’s return to serviceability.

The aircraft was due to pick 180 South African and Zimbabwean citizens stranded in Islamabad, Asia following the global Covid-19 pandemic.
