NATIONAL flag carrier, Air Zimbabwe says it is in discussions with key tourism stakeholders for the re-introduction of its flagship project, the Flame Lily tours as part of efforts to promote domestic tourism in the post-covid-19 period.

Many local and foreign tourists still have fond memories of the ounce popular Flame Lily holiday packages, a flagship project of Air Zimbabwe which was stopped in the late 1990s due to viability challenges. Tourism stakeholders are convinced that the airline is critical in efforts to promote domestic travel.

Air Zimbabwe Spokesperson, Ms Firstme Vitori highlighted that the airline is in discussions with key tourism players for the re-introduction of the once popular product as part of efforts to promote domestic tourism.

”We are working closely with the key tourism stakeholders in the project to reintroduce our flagship product, the Flame Lily. We do believe that the Flame Lily project speaks and answers the needs of the domestic tourists,” she said.

As part of its post-covid-19 strategy, the airline also has plans to introduce more domestic flights and increase frequencies on the existing local routes.

”The national airline is a key connectivity enabler in the recovery and growth of Zimbabwe domestic tourism. Our commitment therefore is in ensuring adequate, reliable and affordable connectivity for the domestic tourists” she said.

Tourism industry players are convinced that the airline has an important role to play in the successful implementation of the recently launched National Tourism Recovery and Growth Strategy.
Under the strategy, government has committed itself to support the airline’s recapitalization and capacity strengthening programme.
