Alex Magaisa Predicts More Squabbles In MDC-T

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. United Kingdom (UK)-based law lecturer, Alex Tawanda Magaisa, has predicted that the squabbles in the opposition MDC-T led by Douglas Mwonzora are far.

Mwonzora recently suspended his deputy, Thokozani Khupe, for a cocktail of reasons cited in the letter he sent to her and her lawyers.

In response, Khupe, a former deputy prime minister, held a presser in Bulawayo declaring herself the party’s new leader on an interim basis saying Mwonzora had expelled himself by claiming to be the leader of MDC Alliance.

She also declared that MDC-T had officially split.

The majority of the MDC-T provinces, however, backed Mwonora saying he remained their leader while Matabeleland South and South Africa provinces backed Khupe.

While some were thinking the drama was almost over since the majority are behind Mwonzora, Magaisa says the squabbles are far from over. He said this Sunday:

The next stage in the Mwonzora/Khupe dogfight is parliamentary recalls. It’s called elimination by recall. Whoever the regime recognises as having the right of recall will get control of the pot of public funds they are both eyeing.

Because of the ridiculous precedent set by parliamentary authorities, it means whoever writes first has their nose in front. Don’t be surprised if the 2 are furiously writing recall letters. It’s the perfect rat race! The irony is that their fate will be in ZANU PF’s hands.

The chaos happens shortly before the March 26 by-elections and could spell disaster for the party that intends to have representation in Parliament and local authorities.

Most of the vacant posts were after the MDC-T recalled them for allegiance to MDC Alliance leader, Nelson Chamisa.
