A female employee at a Mukuru outlet in Bulawayo was confronted by armed suspects on Wednesday morning and forced into the shop, where the robbers made off with more than US$78,000 and over half a million rand from a safe.
The incident happened just after 7 am at the Mukuru branch along Jason Moyo Street, between 8th and 9th Avenue, in the city centre.
In a statement, Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) spokesperson Commissioner Paul Nyathi confirmed the robbery and appealed to members of the public with any information that could assist investigations to come forward. The statement reads:
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is investigating a case of armed robbery which occurred on 04 March 2026 at around 0708 hours at a financial services outlet, located along Jason Moyo Street, between 8th and 9th Avenue, Bulawayo.
“Preliminary investigations by the Police indicate that a female employee at the shop was approached by unknown suspects while parking a motor vehicle upon arrival for duty.
“The suspects forcibly escorted her into the offices and ordered her to open the strong room and a Chubb safe.
“Subsequently, the suspects took cash from the safe, removed a Digital Video Recorder (DVR) and a panic button, before escaping through the back door.
“The total amount stolen is USD 78 141.00 and ZAR 501 820.00.
“The Zimbabwe Republic Police is appealing for information which may assist in the ongoing investigations to contact the National Complaints Desk on (0242) 703631 or WhatsApp 0712 800 197, or report at any nearest police station.”
