Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. A Gweru provincial magistrate has issued an arrest warrant for a Chinese national who skipped court after being charged with undermining the authority of the President.
Jiang Bingqin, 43, is on the run after failing to appear before Gweru Magistrates’ Court over allegations stemming from a heated confrontation on a farm in late 2025.
The State claims that on 29 December 2025, Jiang clashed with farmer Nyengeterai Mapuranga from Kinsburg, along Matobo Road, over what Mapuranga said were unauthorised mining activities on his land.
During the argument, Mapuranga allegedly told Jiang that the land had been allocated to him by President Emmerson Mnangagwa and that he held an official offer letter. The situation reportedly escalated, with Jiang angrily ordering Mapuranga to vacate the property.
Prosecutors say Jiang made remarks deemed contemptuous of the Head of State, allegedly telling Mapuranga to “go and stay with your foolish president in Harare and leave my claims.”
The matter was reported to the police, and Jiang was arrested and released on bail. His failure to attend court prompted the magistrate to declare him a fugitive and issue an arrest warrant.
Police have launched a manhunt, and the case is expected to proceed once Jiang is caught.
