Bulawayo To Launch Measles-Rubella Vaccination Campaign

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. The City of Bulawayo has announced that it will take part in a nationwide Measles-Rubella (MR) follow-up campaign running from 6 to 10 October 2025.

The campaign, which will also cover routine immunisations and Vitamin A supplementation, is aimed at closing immunity gaps and preventing future measles outbreaks.

According to the Town Clerk, Christopher Dube, measles-rubella vaccination coverage for both MR1 and MR2 has remained below the recommended 95% between 2019 and 2022. This has left many children vulnerable to infection.

In 2022, Zimbabwe recorded a measles outbreak, with most cases reported among children aged six months to 14 years.

As part of the campaign, all children aged between 9 and 59 months will be eligible for the MR vaccine, regardless of their previous immunisation status.

Children aged 6 to 59 months who are due or overdue will also receive Vitamin A.

The vaccines will be available at municipal clinics, central hospitals, Mater Dei Hospital, selected private surgeries offering vaccinations, as well as at crèches, primary schools, marketplaces, churches, bus termini, and various outreach points across the city.

Dube urged parents and guardians to ensure their children are vaccinated during the exercise, stressing the importance of achieving high coverage to protect the community from future outbreaks.
