Warriors forward Tawanda Maswanhise has been named one of the promising talents at the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
Although he started only one of Zimbabwe’s three matches at the tournament, Maswanhise impressed CAF by scoring a brilliant solo goal against South Africa in the final group game.
He also played a key role in Zimbabwe’s second goal, which came from an own goal by South African defender Aubrey Modiba.
The Motherwell forward started just one match, made a brief appearance against Egypt, and was an unused substitute against Angola.
The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) congratulated Maswanhise on receiving the recognition from CAF. It said:
“Congratulations to Tawanda Maswanhise for being named among the Most Promising Talents at AFCON 2025.
“You are not just making history, you are inspiring it. Zimbabwe couldn’t be prouder.”
Warriors coach Marian Marinica faced heavy criticism from fans for not trusting Maswanhise to start all three matches.
