FIVE Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) members from Chirumanzu were Friday arrested on allegations of challenging the presence of ‘spooky’ Zanu PF affiliate Forever Associates Zimbabwe (FAZ) representatives at polling stations in Chirumhanzu.

The shadowy organisation surfaced during Zanu PF’s primary elections with reports of rigging the internal party polls and intimidating voters.

Recently FAZ was accused of usurping the powers of ZEC officials at some polling stations, disturbing the voters roll inspection exercise.

Attempts by CCC members to challenge FAZ have so far been futile and on Friday resulted in the arrest of Patrick Cheza (50), Tinashe Moyo (47), Ella’s Madhuviko (26), Tanyaradzwa Calisto Marimbe (23) and Alex Gamuchirai (37) all from Chirumanzu.

The complainant in their case is Philimon Madzivanyika (30) of Kombayi Village.

According to court documents, on May 31, the suspects went to Govere Primary school where a voters inspection exercise was underway.

They allegedly approached Madzivanyika demanding to know what he was doing at the inspection centre.

It is alleged that they grabbed him by the belt and damaged his phone cover worth US$3.

The arrest of the group follows widespread complaints over FAZ operations by opposition politicians.

CCC legislator Tendai Biti recently complained that ZEC’s reluctance to deal with FAZ members was fertile ground for a military coup, demanding an explanation from defence minister Oppah Muchinguri Kashiri.

CCC leader Nelson Chamisa also raised concerns questioning the CIO linked association’s legal rights in electoral processes.
