Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. The City of Harare has commenced a programme to modernise its water infrastructure and improve access to clean, reliable potable water across Greater Harare.

The initiative, which began with a pilot in the Central Business District, is now expanding to Warren Park, Westlea, and Avondale suburbs.

According to a public notice issued by Acting Town Clerk Phakamile Mabhena Moyo, the city—working in partnership with various stakeholders—will rehabilitate water production and distribution systems to enhance service delivery and ensure consistent water supply for all residents.

He said the programme includes the installation of prepaid smart water meters, replacement of ageing water pipes, and the rehabilitation of water treatment facilities.

These interventions are expected to improve efficiency and reduce water losses, which have long plagued the city’s supply network.

However, residents have been advised to brace for temporary service disruptions during the implementation phase. Reads the notice:

“Local service delivery disruptions may be experienced due to unavoidable shutdowns / isolations.”

The City of Harare has appealed for public cooperation during this critical period, saying the success of the project depends on collective support and patience.
