Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. By Felix Matasva – MUTARE: Prices of civil engineering material went up by an average of 10.35 percent between June 2021 and July 2021, NewZimbabwe.com can reveal.
The monthly rate of change is given by the percentage change in Civil Engineering Material Price Index (CEMPI) of the relevant month of the current year compared with the index of previous month.
According to latest data from the Zimbabwe National Statistics Agency (ZIMSTAT), month-on-month CEMPI rate of change stood at 10.35% in July 2021 thereby gaining 8.73% points on June 2021 rate of 1.62%.
However, year on year, prices of civil engineering materials, as measured by all items Civil Engineering Material Price Index (CEMPI) increased at an average rate of 36.76% from July 2020 to July 2021.
The year-on-year CEMPI rate is given by the percentage change in index of relevant month of the current year compared with index of same month in previous year.
ZIMSTAT noted that CEMPI for the month ending July was pegged at 1 975.34 compared to 1 790 in June 2021 and 1 423.61 in July 2020.
ZIMSTAT attributed a rise in the index in July 2021 to products inclusive of deformed steel, bricks, diesel, joint compound, cement, crushed stone, shutter board, river sand, concrete pipes, water stops and steel pipes.
High prices on the above mentioned products were observed in July 2021.
Prices of products including asbestos pipes, sluice valve and bitumen almost remained constant and it was insignificant to the rise or fall of the index.
Furthermore, the month on month Civil Engineering Plant Price Index (CEPPI) rate of change stood at 5.05 percent in August 2021 shedding 5.55 percentage points on the July 2021 rate of 10.60 percent.
According to ZIMSTAT at this meant that prices as measured by the all items Civil Engineering Plant Price Index (CEPPI) increased at an average rate of 5.05% July 2021 to August 2021.

Excavators, loaders, rollers, dozers, graders, drive train and ground engaging tools were among the group of products that resulted most to the rise on index in August this year.
A surge in prices of the afro items was observed in August this year.
The year-on-year Civil Engineering Plant Price Index (CEPPI) rate of change was pegged at 56.12% in August this year.
Prices as measured by all items (CEPPI) soared at an average of 56.12% from August 2020 to August this year.
The year on year inflation rate is given by the percentage change in index of relevant month of the current year compared with the index of the same month in the previous year.
The CEPPI for the month ending August 2021 stood at 2 408.45 compared to 2.292.59 in July 2021 and 1 542.71 in August 2020.
