Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. The Zimbabwe Anti-corruption Commission (ZACC) has arrested Cotton Company of Zimbabwe (COTTCO) managing director Pious Manamike and is marketing and business development manager Maxmore Njanji on corruption allegations.

The duo was arrested on Thursday afternoon and was expected to appear at the Harare Magistrates Court for a bail hearing.

The corruption allegations emanated from a 2021 audit report that unearthed financial irregularities at the company.

NewZimbabwe.com

reported sources as saying Njani is being accused of abusing COTTCO resources to fund his political ambitions.

Njani is reportedly planning to contest the Mazowe Central National Assembly seat on a ZANU PF ticket.

He reportedly distributed knapsacks, motorcycles and bicycles belonging to COTTCO to his supporters in the constituency. Said the source:

Members of the party got bicycles, motorcycles and knapsacks used to spray cotton while everyone else got nothing.

They have since been arrested and are set to appear in court this afternoon.

On 30 May this year, President Emmerson Mnangagwa urged COTTCO bosses to men their ways. He said:

Those in charge of COTTCO must quickly change their ways, there is no time any longer, and certainly, no patience in us suffer their irresponsible conduct.
