Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. DYNAMOS’ revival continued after a 4-3 penalty shootout win over Yadah FC to begin their Chibuku Super Cup title defence at Ngoni Stadium yesterday.
The Glamour Boys will now play Simba Bhora at Wadzanayi Stadium on Saturday as they look to bag the country’s premier knockout tournament for the third year running.
It was also a winning start for new coach Kelvin Kaindu, who appeared on the bench for the first time in the second half.
Assistant coach Thomas Ruzive, who took up the media duties, said the focus remains on surviving relegation rather than winning Chibuku Cup.
“Yes, we are happy that the guys are responding very well,” he said.
“It gives us some confidence going forward. I think it’s good for us. We are familiarising with the team and with positive results.
“Our only objective is to survive the relegation. We are not worried much about the Chibuku Cup. We are worried about the relegation.”
Turning to the Simba Bhora first round tie, he said: “Indeed, it’s a very difficult game. Simba Bhora are playing well and they are defending champions in the league. We are going to face a difficult game in the first round.”
Yadah coach Takaendesa Jongwe felt his team gave everything.
“Dynamos won it on penalties, but we gave it our best and what’s painful is that we lost it on penalties. We tried everything,” he said.
“If you ask me, I think we were the better side throughout the game, but as always, penalties are a lottery. We lost it and we move forward.”
After a goalless draw, the matches went straight into penalty shootouts.
Captain Emmanuel Jalai, Jairos Kasondo, Ransom Chingwara and Abel Gwatidzo scored for Dynamos while Denver Mukamba missed.
Innocent Mucheneka, Aaron Dzingai and Marvelous Faranando converted for Yadah, while Takunda Vhareta and Vincent Sango missed.
Dynamos FC majority shareholder Bernard Marriot was part of the crowd watching his team win their second match on the trot.
The team beat MWOS FC 1-0 in their last league game at Rufaro on Saturday.
