Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. A CONTIGENT of 34 medical professionals from Discovery Ambulance Services has arrived at the Zion Christian Church Defe Dopota shrine in Gokwe, the Midlands province, to offer free medical services.
The troop comprises two medical doctors, two paramedics, six emergency medical technicians, an emergency dispatcher, two firefighters, 10 ambulance technicians as well as medical assistants.
This takes to 40 the number of staffers at the shrine as the country’s biggest congregation meets.
Discovery Ambulance Services founder and chief executive officer David Munowenyu said it was a great honour to serve in the “house of the Lord”.
“We received an invitation from Bishop Nehemiah Mutendi to assist as they receive large crowds for their congregation,” he said.
“The first team went last weekend and trained 150 members of the church Basic First Aid.
“The idea is that they will then assist our medical staff as they go about their business.
“Just as His Excellency Dr Emmerson Mnangagwa says, we are leaving no one and no place behind.”
Munowenyu added that this was part of the company’s broad holiday disaster mitigation plan.
“We are also stationed on the highways around the country in partnership with Traffic Safety Council OF Zimbabwe, where we are running a ‘drive safe to arrive alive’ campaign,” he said.
Munowenyu said they were working with various entities like TelOne, NatPharm and the Health and Child Care ministry.
