Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. Zimdancall music producer, DJ Fantan, born Arnold Kamudyariwa, allegedly soaked their blankets in a bathtub to ensure that his wife, Gamuchirai Nemukuyu, would stay at home and be a full-time housewife.
Nemukuyu (22), claimed that her 35-year-old husband wants her to be a stay-at-home mom rather than go and run a canteen business in Mbare.
She told Mbare Magistrate Rangarirai Gakanje that the Chillspot Records co-proprietor has blocked her every effort to get a job.
Fantan appeared in court on Thursday facing malicious damage to property worth US$250. He denied the charges.
The DJ was released on free bail and is expected back in court on 20 May.
Prosecutors told the court that DJ Fantan had a misunderstanding with his wife on 2 May 2022.
Fantan allegedly returned home around 7 pm and confronted his wife over her decision to start the restaurant business at Stoddart, Mbare against his orders.
He is alleged to have emotionally abused Nemukuyu by destroying household property, including dinner plates, dinner cups, wine glasses, plastic dishes and jugs.
It is further alleged that four days after the incident, Fantan soaked their blankets in their bathtub, an incident that was reportedly witnessed by their housemaid, Tanaka Govha.
