Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. FC Platinum midfielder Brian “Bibiza Ndazula” Banda, who tragically died in a road traffic accident on Sunday morning, passed away just two weeks after the birth of his son, without ever laying eyes on him.
Banda is survived by three children: two daughters, Bandile Primrose Banda and Langelihle Banda, and the newborn boy, whom he had promised to name once they met.
Speaking to the Chronicle, Banda’s elder sister, Beauty Dube, revealed the heartbreaking detail. She said:
It’s unfortunate. We’ve lost a brother, someone we trusted completely. He leaves behind three children, the youngest being a baby boy we’d only christened Junior. It’s painful that he passed on before he even held his two week old son.
Banda (29), a former Highlanders player, was widely regarded as one of Zimbabwe’s most disciplined and talented midfielders.
He was a passenger in a Toyota Corolla Bubble owned by Proton Bakeries when the vehicle veered off the road and overturned near the Fred Mine turn-off.
The driver, attempting to overtake at a blind spot, swerved to avoid an oncoming vehicle and lost control. The crash occurred around 2:30 AM.
Banda and another passenger died at the scene. The accident took place along the Zvishavane-Bulawayo Road, just a day after Banda had watched his FC Platinum teammates draw 1–1 with defending champions Simba Bhora at Mandava Stadium. Banda missed the match due to injury.
Raised in Entumbane, Bulawayo, Banda was the only son in a family of four. His funeral wake was held at 7550 Cowdray Park, at the house he had built for his mother.
