Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. THE government has made a strong call for strategic clarity, institutional discipline and enhanced governance capabilities as the nation transitions from the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS 1) to National Development Strategy 2 (NDS 2).

Addressing the ICT and Courier Services ministry strategic workshop in Kariba recently, ICT minister Tatenda Mavetera stressed the importance of translating aspirations to tangible actions, urging a results-oriented, pragmatic and resourceful approach.

She applauded recent policy achievements, including the National AI Strategy, the Cybersecurity Strategy and ongoing work on the Child Protection Policy and ICT Standards Policy.

Mavetera called for full alignment with the Zimbabwe National ICT Policy 2022–27, which aims to propel the country towards an upper-middle-income economy by 2030.

In her remarks, Mashonaland West Provincial Affairs and Devolution minister Marian Chombo highlighted the province’s rich cultural heritage.

“As we delve deeper into the wonders of Mashonaland West province, let us not overlook the vibrant tapestry of culture that defines our communities.

“Our people are warm and welcoming, with traditions woven into every aspect of life from lively festivals celebrating our heritage to artisanal crafts that showcase our creativity.

“We have a unique opportunity to leverage on ICT to tell our stories, promote our cultural heritage and connect with a global audience eager to discover what makes us truly special.

“With vast arable land and favourable climatic conditions, Mashonaland West has the potential to become a food basket for the nation and beyond.”

She added: “By integrating ICT solutions such as precision farming, mobile market access applications and data analytics, we can empower farmers, boost productivity and ensure food security for all.”

Chombo emphasised the importance of education and capacity-building in driving digital transformation.

“Our youth are the torchbearers of tomorrow,” she said.

“It is imperative that we equip them with the skills to navigate the digital landscape.

“Through partnerships between educational institutions, government and the private sector, we can build a robust ecosystem that nurtures innovation and entrepreneurship.”
