Govt Assigned Security Sector Members To The National Prosecution Authority (NPA) – Report

23

Africa-Press-Zimbabwe:

The government at some point in the past assigned security sector members(people from the ZNA and or the Central Intelligence Organisation and or ZRP) to the National Prosecution Authority(NPA) and the members were responsible for rendering unspecified services to the NPA

This came to light in a letter that was shared on Twitter by MDC A Spokesperson Fadzayi Mahere that stated that the security sector members were being withdrawn from the NPA because their secondment was not constitutional.

The letter signed by the acting secretary of the attorney general announcing the departure of the said security sector members reads:

Ref/ Secondment 9 February 2021 All Provincial Heads

DEPARTURE OF MEMBERS OF THE SECURITY SECTOR WHO WERE ON SECONDMENT TO THE NPA (PROSECUTORIAL DUTIES).

We refer you to our circular referenced RH’: NPATI1R/05/2021 dated 8 February 2021.

The aforementioned circular directed the disengagement of the services of serving members in the security sector from the secondment to the NPA. Provincial and Station heads are requested to formally inform the affected members.

May you clarify to them on the need for the Authority to comply with the Constitutional Court Order CCZ1/19. Furthermore may you please give them a befitting sendoff at your office level, and thank them on behalf of the Authority on their successful tour of duty, their dedication, as well as their commitment.
We will forever be indebted to their immense contribution.

Your Cooperation on this matter is highly appreciated.
