Government has been commended for its commitment towards improving access to basic infrastructure in rural areas in line with Vision2030.

This came out during the official commissioning of Siyoka bridge in Beitbridge this Monday.

Through Vision2030 the government seeks to uplift the standards of living of ordinary people through funding the upgrading and development of infrastructure in various communities.

Among the latest beneficiaries of government’s drive is the ward 12 community in Beitbridge West, which now boasts of Siyoka Bridge, constructed by the District Development Fund (DDF).

“We are really grateful to the government for this bridge, which will ensure access to services on both sides. The community used to face serious challenges during the rainy season, so we are glad that this is now a thing of the past, said Headman Siyoka.

Matabeleland South DDF Provincial Manager, Mr Moment Malandu thanked the community for partnering the organisation in the construction of key road projects.

“DDF is grateful for the help that came from the community and I believe if we continue in that spirit we will achieve a lot.”

The municipality stressed the importance of safeguarding the critical structure.

“As a council, we want to assure the government that we will do our best through the local leadership to jealously guard this structure because of its importance to the people here,” Beitbridge RDC Acting CEO Peter Ncube said.

In a speech read on his behalf, Matabeleland South Minister of State for Provincial Affairs and Devolution, Cde Abednico Ncube said development is key to the growth of the local economy.

“The success of the devolution strategy as measured by the gross domestic product hinges on the accessibility to the resource base of our province. We have heard the President talking of Vision2030, this means we need to have access to all basic services,” he said.

Siyoka bridge was completed last year after government availed 1,5 million Zimbabwe dollars for the project.

Apart from the construction of bridges, DDF has also been seized with rehabilitating the road network.
