Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. The Government of Zimbabwe has signed a landmark Public-Private Partnership (PPP) agreement with China’s Henan Concessions Company to rehabilitate the Harare–Nyamapanda Road and modernise the Nyamapanda Border Post.
The agreement, signed on 25 June 2025 by Joy Pedzisai Makumbe, Permanent Secretary in the Ministry of Transport and Infrastructural Development, marks a major infrastructure milestone aimed at improving regional connectivity and economic activity along one of Zimbabwe’s key trade corridors.
Under the concession, Henan Concessions Company will finance, upgrade, operate, and maintain both the road and the border facilities.
The project scope includes dualising key sections of the highway to ease traffic congestion, constructing a modern toll plaza to improve revenue collection and service delivery, and upgrading border infrastructure to enhance immigration and customs processes.
Makumbe said the initiative is aligned with the goals of the National Development Strategy 1 (NDS1), which prioritises the development of sustainable infrastructure as a catalyst for economic growth.
She added that the partnership is a critical step toward delivering safer and more efficient transport systems for both Zimbabweans and the broader Southern African region.
The Ministry of Transport has appealed for public cooperation and patience during the implementation phase, assuring citizens that any short-term disruptions will result in long-term national benefits.
