Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. GOVERNMENT says it is assessing the Chiringa Monitoring and Evaluation Dashboard, a locally-developed digital platform designed to strengthen real-time tracking of national programmes and projects.

The adoption of the system, developed by Bindura University of Science Education, was announced during the Monitoring, Evaluation and Learning (MEL) Awareness Campaign seminar held in Harare.

Chief Secretary to the President and Cabinet Martin Rushwaya said the dashboard was part of ongoing efforts to mainstream MEL systems across government institutions.

“Government is currently assessing the home-grown Chiringa Monitoring and Evaluation Dashboard developed by Bindura University of Science and Technology,” he said.

“The system has been piloted within the social services cluster under Hon Vice-President (Constantino) Chiwenga.”

Rushwaya said Zimbabwe’s efforts to strengthen MEL frameworks were in line with broader African development practices.

“We are not alone in this pursuit. Most countries in Africa are strengthening their MEL systems, highlighting a continental movement of managing for sustainable MEL in Zimbabwe and Africa in general,” he said.

“There is need to mainstream a whole of government and society approach anchored on multi-stakeholder engagement and inclusivity, citizen-focused programming and strong institutional frameworks.

“In Zimbabwe, the establishment of strategic policy planning and monitoring and directorates in government is underway.”

At the MEL seminar, Vice-President Kembo Mohadi said the dashboard would be adopted as a central monitoring instrument for all government ministries, departments and agencies.
