THE Government has warned teachers that have been illegally conducting extra lessons in violation of lockdown to stop forthwith or risk facing the wrath of the law.
This comes as measures are being put in place to see the eventual reopening of schools in the country.
Speaking on Tuesday after a Cabinet meeting, Information, Publicity and Broadcasting Minister, Mrs Monica Mutsvangwa revealed that as part of preparations for the reopening of schools considerable progress had been made in clearing schools that had been previously used as quarantine centres.
She warned teachers that are conducting extra lessons in violation of lockdown regulations adding that this was exposing learners to the Covid-19 pandemic.
“In preparation for the impending opening of schools, it is pleasing to note that considerable progress has been made in vacating returnees from schools that were being used as quarantine centres. Efforts to refurbish the identified alternative centres are being enhanced. “However, some teachers are illegally conducting extra lessons in violation of lockdown regulations. Such practices, which endanger the lives of the children in question, should be stopped forthwith,” said Minister Mutsvangwa.
She revealed that most Universities had now re-opened with final year students accommodated on campus while the rest of the students are studying online.
Meanwhile the Minister revealed that as efforts continue to monitor truckers whom Government had raised a red flag on, law enforcement agencies had since arrested 53 truck drivers for illegally transporting passengers.
