Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. HEALTH and Child Care deputy minister Sleiman Kwidini has urged graduating nurses to embrace the evolving medicinal landscape and adapt to rapid advancements in healthcare to improve patient care.
Speaking last week at the graduation ceremony of 203 nurses at St Theresa Hospital School of Nursing in Chirumanzu, Kwidini said it was important for nurses to leverage on technology and modern medical practices to address challenges faced in the health sector.
“Keep abreast with the ever-evolving medical landscape. Embody the spirit of innovation, fostering creative solutions to entrenched health sector challenges,” he said.
“The world you step into as nurses is constantly evolving. New diseases, new technologies, new challenges.
“Stay curious, keep learning and let every patient teach you something. Let every experience, even the difficult ones shape you into the nurse you aspire to be.”
Kwidini urged the nurses to be leaders, advocates and resilient professionals prepared to make a positive impact on the lives of patients.
He said the nursing profession was a calling which required a empathy and selflessness in caring for patients.
“Nursing is not just a profession, it is a calling and requires you to comfort when there are no words and to show strength when others cannot,” he said.
Kwidini applauded stakeholders who chipped in when an inferno, which occurred last year in February, destroyed infrastructure disrupting learning at the nursing school.
He, however, commended tutors and clinical area staff for mentoring the graduands who achieved a 100% pass rate despite the disaster.
