Harare-Based Cop Sells Police Uniforms For US$1,000

Africa-Press – Zimbabwe. A Zimbabwe Republic Police (ZRP) officer appeared before a Harare magistrate after allegedly selling police uniforms to a fellow officer for US$1,000.

Shamain Dzingai Muteswa, 34, was charged with criminal abuse of duty when he appeared before Harare magistrate Marewanazvo Gofa. He was not required to enter a plea.

The complainant in the case is the Ministry of Home Affairs and Cultural Heritage, represented by Christopher Lloyd Tarenyika.

The court heard that Muteswa, who lives at ZRP Fife Avenue Flats in Harare and serves as a police officer, was approached by fellow officer Justice Chasiya seeking assistance in obtaining police uniforms. Chasiya requested 40 riot trousers, 50 STU caps, and 20 grey shirts.

Muteswa supplied the uniforms and received US$1,000 in return. Chasiya later sold the uniforms to other police officers.

The scheme was uncovered on 23 October 2025 after Chasiya’s arrest, during which he implicated Muteswa in the offence.
